Practical Ideas for End of the Year Spanish Activities (and Other Languages Too)

Cruising the last weeks of school with students? Looking for engaging end of the year ideas for Spanish class? Then, you are in the right place. I have a ton of fun, flexible, on target language, and interactive end of the year ideas for the Spanish classroom to share with you that I used with with my learners with much success!

You know what saved me this week? Three things:

  • Lessons from past end of the year teacher reflections
  • The class communities I have worked so hard this year to build
  • and my favorite tech tools…JAMBOARD & Google Slides

Lessons learned through past years about End of the Year Activities for Spanish class:

  • Make it as personal as possible as this shows you cherish your learners.
  • Integrate activities that bring you closer to your already established class community.
  • Find every opportunity to celebrate the good moments of the year.
  • Find every opportunity to invite laughter
  • Include a variety of activities: whole class to strengthen your class community;  independent to give you time to finalize the heavy job demands;  small group to give your students more time to bond. I have done this both online, hybrid, and face to face, and it is a good rule of thumb to have.
  • Invite holistic reflection & feedback throughout the last weeks!
  • Continue embedding social emotional learning experiences.
  • Be present, I know with many other responsibilities it is challenging, but when teachers are not fully present, this invites misbehaviors.
  • Avoid assigning projects because our learners are as exhausted as we are and every other teacher in your building is probably assigning projects.
  • Do everything you can to close on a positive note with every student.
  • Foster a positive outlook for the years to come.
  • Whatever you decide to do, make it an enjoyable experience.

So, how can you do this? Combining those elements sound like a lot of work, right? I will share some efficient, reflective, and engaging ideas in this and other blog posts that you may be able to integrate during your last days of school in Spanish class!

If you want to save time reading and creating resources, but you just want to get the goods…then check out these engaging variety of end of the year activities for your  Spanish classroom!

Read all about the WHY behind these activities. Today, I will be sharing about the importance of continuing to create a sense of togetherness until the very last day.

#1 - Continue building community, stay in the target language, & actually enjoy the last weeks of school with these discussion boards!

As a morning meeting, you can project a question or post a question via your Padlet or Mentimeter and invite all students to respond. Share the results with the entire class.

Just one question a day is all that is needed to reminisce and continue to place your class community first.

Watch them as they get excited to participate.

Some prompts you can include are:

  • My out best class day
  • The funniest class moment
  • The most interesting topic we studied
  • My favorite thing about this class
  • My least favorite thing about this class
  • The weirdest moment in this class
  • The top contributor of this class
  • The person who made us laugh the most
While you may not see some of your learners again, nurturing a classroom community until the very last day is important because that is the memory they will have of you class. Do you want your entire World Language and Spanish school program to grow? Strive to create opportunities to nurture your classroom community day in and day out.

Need the first 10 minutes of your classes planned of your these last weeks of school? Consider it done!

Not only that, these prompts got the chat of my hybrid class blowing up and these also allowed me to receive light feedback from my students on some occasions.

In the next blog post, I will be sharing another idea for an independent self paced social emotional learning assignment.
